Those that opted to go under the knife had to be forcibly restrained and procedures were more often like a fight than an operation. The procedures were horrific for everyone involved and a solution had to be sought to give patients much needed pain relief. For one man, he didn’t believe substances were the logical step, but he discovered a new solution that was free. He believed pain relief was all in the mind.
