The hotel was built on the nearly 200-year-old hunting grounds of the Maharana of Mewar on the famous Lake Pichola in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. The hotel sits on over 30 acres, with about 40% of the total area designated as a wildlife sanctuary. The hotel's architecture references the traditional Rajasthani palaces of the Mewari Kingdom, which ruled the region 300 years ago, with details such as tiled outdoor corridors, stone pavilions, arched entrances and fountains. You might spot a peacock as you stroll through the extensive gardens, designed by Asia-based designer Bill Bensley. The gardens offer views of some of the city's famous historical sites from several vantage points.
