| Video Discription | Hi everyone my name is Matt from SciMed I’m going to give you a quick overview of our AOX analyser from @analytik-jena. There's some new legislation that's been introduced into the UK, ISO 9562, for the analysis of waste waters for AOX (absorbable organic halides) and Analytik Jena are the number one manufacturer in Europe which is why we're introducing this technology into the UK There are two components to the system; we have the sample preparation and the sample analysis, both equally important. This is the APUsim, our recommended configuration for sample prep. Relatively simple, it conforms to all the specifications that are required to comply with the norm. So we have six independent channels with six independent syringes at the top. We put a sample in and use a peristaltic pump to pump the sample through, we collect the AOX on these activated charcoal columns here. Now what's quite unique about this system is there are different configurations; our standard is the duplex to avoid or overcome any breakthrough issues we might be having through high levels of AOX. We also have a triplex setup where we have high levels of particles we can filter those out, or if we have high levels of inorganic chlorine we have a solid phase extraction that we can perform first before doing the final elution. As I said the AOX is then collected on the charcoal column here and we can move that to the detector. We can do that automatically with other auto samplers; we don't recommend it because most labs are low throughput. But the charcoal column is then inserted into this combustion tube here; we can do it manually or via this auto sampler. We combust at 1100 degrees, we carry the sample through using oxygen as a carrier gas to the detector. The detector in this instance is a coulometric cell: it's a three-in-one electrode, it's self-cleaning, there’s no salt bridge no diaphragm etc. It's a very elegant design. Has a huge working range from 10 nanograms to 10 milligrams of absolute chlorine. So very versatile and very flexible.
