| Video Discription | Rani Abbakka Chowta was Queen of Ullal who fought the Portuguese in 16th century. She Fought Portuguese for 40 years with her 2 daughters and failed all the attacks of Portuguese. Portuguese + Spainish etc were those people race who conquered whole south America and central America completely destroying the inca and Aztec Empire. After taking Goa, Portuguese turned their attention southwards and attacked the South Kanara coast in 1525 and destroyed the Mangalore then they turned the eyes towards the Ullal but due to the resistance of Abbakka it wasnot possible . Then Portuguese demanded that she pay them tribute but she refused so In 1555, the Portuguese sent Admiral Dom Álvaro da Silveira to fight her but she defeated the Portuguese.In 1557, and 1558 the Portuguese came to plundered Mangalore but both attack was stopped right there in tracks by her. In 1568, João Peixoto, a Portuguese general attacked Ullal but same night she attack on the Portuguese killing General Peixoto,taking 70 prisoners and making Portuguese to retreat. In further attacks she killed Admiral Mascarenhas and the Portuguese were forced to vacate the Mangalore fort. In 1569 Portuguese regained the Mangalore fort and also captured Kundapur (Basrur) and also attacked Ullal. In 1570, she destroyed the Portuguese fort in Mangalore. 3000 Portuguese troops attacked Ullal in a surprise early morning. Rani Abbakka was returning from a visit to her family temple but she immediately mounted her horse and run into battle pushing Portuguese to ships and land. Many of the ships of Portuguese were burnt that night, Rani Abbakka was wounded in the crossfire and was captured by the enemy with the help of few chieftains. However, her legacy lived on through her equally fierce and brave daughters who continued to defend the lands from the Portuguese. NqknJp2FhYA |
