I mean, women are becoming more empowered than ever, and as long as we can continue on that path, it's wonderful. And I think people want to see women kicking ass. Just seeing the response to 'Revenge' and watching these characters, they're so loved by the fans. So I think we're getting to a good place with that." 11. The three characters are part of a flurry of action-oriented roles for women actors in upcoming sci-fi and fantasy series. Lily Collins plays New Yorker Clary Fray in "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones." She's a regular girl from Brooklyn who discovers her magical powers in movie based on the fantasy series by author Cassandra Clare. Shailene Woodley plays Beatrice Prior in "Divergent," set in a futuristic Chicago in which the population has divided itself into factions to keep the peace. "Mortal Instruments" author Clare said she hopes for a time when the news about women in action-oriented roles is no longer news.
