| Video Discription | Charyn Canyon Kazakhstan | Almaty day trip (awesome 4k drone footage) Charyn Canyon is one of the BEST day trips from Almaty Kazakhstan. Locals call it the the "grand canyon of Kazakhstan". Although not quite as big as the grand canyon, this is genuinely an impressive canyon situated in the epic scenery of Eastern Kazakhstan. It is possible to visit Charyn Canyon as a long day trip from Almaty. Alternatively you could visit Charyn canyon on the way to Kolsai lake and Kaindy lake or on the way to the Kyrgyz border. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How to get to the Charyn Canyon (BUDGET option - shared car) (1) Take a subway, bus or taxi to Sayakhat bus station (near Almaty 2 train station) Do NOT confuse this with Sayran bus station! Aim to be there by 8-9am if possible. (2) Ask around for "Charyn povorot" (this means "Charyn turning") The driver will drop you off at the turning for Charyn canyon which is around 10km from the canyon. (3) At the bus station you will find people offering shared taxis for 2,500 tenge per person (5.00GBP or $7.50). Before you agree to go with someone look around to see if there are any cars that are almost full and ready to go. If not you will need to wait till your car fills up. NOTE: if drivers are trying to charge you more they may be offering a private car which will be more expensive. (4) The shared taxi ride to the turning of Charyn canyon will take around 3-4 hours and will probably include a rest stop. (5) When you get dropped off at the turning you can walk or hitch hike to the canyon. (6) You will pass a ticket office. Tickets cost around 500 tenge (1GBP or $1.50) depending whether you are driving / camping. (7) from the carpark there are several paths down into the canyon. If you walk to the end of the canyon you can see an impressive river. Take care near the river as it is fast flowing! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How to get to the Charyn Canyon (EASY option) You can also organise private taxis from Sayakhat bust station. Drivers will charge around 20,000 Tenge (40GBP or 60USD) for a private taxi round trip to Charyn Canyon. You could pool together as a group to share the cost but make sure it is clear that the cost is for the whole group and for the return journey.
