| Video Discription | There are many theories about the first people in the Philippines. One of these is the idea of three distinct migration waves: Negritos, Indonesians, and Malays. Additionally, two prevailing theories suggest origins: "Out of Taiwan" and "Out of Sundaland." The "Out of Taiwan" theory is a hypothesis in the study of Austronesian migrations. According to this theory, Austronesian ancestors originated in Taiwan and from there spread to various parts of Southeast Asia, including the islands of the Pacific such as the Philippines. And the other is the 'Out of Sundaland' theory, which proposes that Austronesian ancestors originated from Sundaland, an ancient landmass that once connected the islands of Southeast Asia, including parts of modern-day Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines." But, new studies on genes say something different. In 2021, researchers looked at DNA from different Filipino groups and found out a more complicated story. They think there were at least five different times when people moved to the Philippines in the last 50,000 years! This new idea shows that Philippine history is really interesting and complicated.
