| Video Discription | Google Sheets LOOKUP function assists you to lookup an exact or approximate search key, in the specified range, and get the search key itself or its corresponding data. The data in the lookup column or range should be sorted for LOOKUP to work correctly. Note that this function might always not return an approximate match of the search key, if there is not an exact match. Here is the format of the Google Sheets LOOKUP function: =LOOKUP(search_key, search_range|search_result_array, [result_range]) Start a formula with an equal-to symbol. search_key is the value you want to search in a row or column. search_range is the first row or column to search for the search_key. or search_result_array is the combination of the search range and the result range. The LOOKUP function will search the first row or column and, if search key is found, return the corresponding value from the last row or column. result_range is optional, and is the single row or column from which the LOOKUP function returns the result corresponding to the search key. Note that you can use either the search_result_array or the result_range, but not both. Let's look at three examples of the Google Sheets LOOKUP function: Example 1 This example uses only the search_key and search_range attributes and returns the search_key itself. =LOOKUP(search_key, search_range|search_result_array, [result_range]) =LOOKUP("expenditure", A1:A7) The LOOKUP function returns "expenditure", if it is found in the range A1 to A7. Example 2 This example uses the search_key, search_range, and result_range attributes and returns the data, in the result range, corresponding to the search key. =LOOKUP(search_key, search_range|search_result_array, [result_range]) =LOOKUP("expenditure", A1:A7, B1:B7) Assuming the search key "expenditure" is found in the search range A1 to A7 and if "stationery" is the corresponding item, then the function will return it.
