According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, the two deaths have been reported from Dhemaji. This was after five major rivers, including the Brahmaputra at two places are flowing over the danger level. People in several villages in Rupohihat in the state’s Nagaon district had to abandon their homes in the middle of the night after water from the Brahmaputra inundated these villages. Some of the worst affected villages are Bogamukh village number 4 and 5. Several areas in Balipara in Sonitpur district of Assam have also been hit by floods. Localities such as Balipara commercial centre, Bam Gaon, Kumari Gaon, Dighali, Dighali Balijan, Udmari Gaon, Dhekeri Gaon, Bhobola Gaon, Owhala village and several others have been submerged due to the floods. Several villages were also hit by a sudden flood on Sunday night forcing many to abandon their homes and take shelter in higher grounds such as railway tracks. The villages were inundated after embankments by the Jarashar River on the outskirts of Balipara town were damaged. Additionally, vast stretches of paddy fields were submerged causing substantial losses to farmers. Margherita in Tinsukia district has also been hit by floods leaving several areas submerged. Many have even shifted to shelter camps and are relying on relief provided by the government. Similarly, several areas in Golaghat, Dhemaji, Majuli, Cachar, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, Sivsagar, Kokrajhar and Jorhat districts have also been affected by floods.
