Bambach is Curator in the Department of Drawings and Prints at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Bambach earned her BA, MA, MPhil and PhD at Yale University, she was then awarded numerous prestigious post-doctoral fellowships from the Metropolitan Museum, Villa I Tatti – The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies, The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. More recently she was appointed Andrew W. Mellon Professor at CASVA, National Gallery of Arts, Washington DC from 2010 and 2012, and the following year she was elected life-long Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the United States most prestigious society of learning and policy research. Bambach has been co-author, editor and curator of a number of exhibitions such as The Drawings of Filippino Lippi and His Circle, MMA (1997); Léonard de Vinci: Dessins et manuscrits, Musée du Louvre (2003); Leonardo da Vinci: Master Draftsman, MMA (2003); The Drawings of Bronzino, MMA (2010). She has published more than seventy scholarly articles and among her books we mention: Drawing and Painting in the Italian Renaissance Workshop: Theory and Practice, 1300-1600, Cambridge University Press, 1999 (winner of the Salimbeni prize) and Una eredità difficile: i disegni ed i manoscritti di Leonardo tra mito e documento.
