It takes you past pretty rivers and idyllic lakes - and introduces the infamous history of this epic route in an incredibly unique way. Berlin forms an exciting contrast to the beautiful nature, which makes up about two-thirds of the Wall Trail: historical and modern architecture, straight canals, pretty parks and enchanting cherry tree avenues accompany you along the former Berlin Wall. The Berlin Wall Trail spans over 100 miles (160 kilometers) along the former GDR border fortifications to West Berlin. It can be traversed in three stages, each around 30 miles (50 kilometers) long. This trail follows the former customs route in West Berlin and the column path in East Berlin. The majority of the Wall Cycle Path is smoothly asphalted, providing a pleasant riding experience. Some stretches still feature the characteristic concrete slabs of the Column Trail, once used by the GDR border troops. Along the route, you'll encounter historically significant remnants of the Wall, as well as picturesque landscapes and untouched nature beyond the city confines. Numerous memorials and information boards explain the history of Germany's division and the Berlin Wall's significance. You can conveniently access all stages via public transport, making it feasible to incorporate the ride into your Berlin trip without the need for daily accommodation changes.
