Don't use 2-in-1s if you care about your hair looking good. They contradict eachother. Shampoo wants to clean hair, Conditioner wants to leave goodies in it. Combining them means the goodies of conditioner get washed out and it is likely to leave your hair dry and dull looking as a result. Remember, the name of the game with hair is keeping those roof shingle like cuticles that surround the your hair fibre to lay flat. When they lay flat, your hair looks nicer and is less prone to frizz. A big common myth with men's hair is that washing your hair frequently or less frequently impacts the amount of oils that your scalp produces. This is false, the sebaceous glands in your scalp that produce sebum(oil), don't have a way of knowing if your hair is oily or not and the rate or production does not change. You may just feel like your hair gets more oily when you wash it more frequently because your scalp is going from 0 oil to a baseline of oil very quickly and so it seems like more is being produced. Another myth is around parabens, sulfates, and silicones. Do not worry about specific ingredients in your products. This all comes from fear-mongering perpetuated by natural or "clean" brands and is unfounded. There are panels of toxicologists and chemists who examine these ingredients and there is zero issue with them at the amounts used in your product. If you slathered on products with parabens for an entire day, you still would get more in your system from eating blueberries. Sulfates are a surfactant, or cleanser in normal terms, they are strongly negatively charged, which makes them stronger than other surfactants that do not have a charge or have less of a negative charge. This doesn't mean they are bad for you, they do a very good job at cleaning. There is a big difference between having a product that is 30% sulfates and one that is 5% sulfates combined with other ingredients to make the sulfate more mild. Formulation is key. If you have dry hair type, could be best to avoid these though. Silicones are one of the best things for your hair looking smooth, shiny and overall healthy. They take the place of plant oils that can be greasy feeling and leave the hair looking lank, depending on how much is used. Product wise everything depends on your hair. Asian hair is very different from African hair, which is very different from Scandinavian Hair. Asian hair tends to be thicker with a round hair shaft, African hair has a flat shaft and has kinks in it, and Blonde caucasian hair often is thinner, but with more follicles. The thinner the hair, the more likely someone is to be of the oily hair type, as oil can spread through a thin hair strand much more easily than a thick one. So first for Oily hair types/Thin and possibly thinning hair types. You want a shampoo that has high cleansing power and a conditioner that brings mild conditioning to the hair.
