The J5 tactical runs on either a single AA which is one of the most common battery types or you can use a more powerful 14500 battery for improved output. It has a maximum output of 300 lumens, a max throw of 180 meters, an adjustable focus, excellent weather resistance and you can pick it up for right around $13. Before we dive in be sure to give this video a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already and if you want to see how this flashlight compares with some of the best AA flashlights you can buy you can find my video on that in the description below. I want to start off by giving you a quick tour of the light before we get to the beamshots. The J5 Tactical has an aluminum alloy body with plenty of grip and there’s also a pocket clip on the side which you can remove if you want. On the tail there’s a nice big red rubber button which allows you to turn the light on and cycle through the high, low and strobe modes and you can also stand the light on it’s tail if you want. If you hold the body of the light and pull the head you can adjust the focus of the light back and forth between an ultra focused beam and a wide flood beam. The focused beam is useful for spotting objects at a distance and the wide flood beam is good for up close tasks. It also has a crenulated tactical style bezel which is useful for self defense. We’re going to start the beamshots off by playing around with this light and adjusting the focus so you can get an idea of how this light performs indoors. Now the head is pulled all the way out and the light is as focused as possible and as you and see my cat is really enjoying chasing this thing around. It’s really easy to adjust the focus and it’s nice to be able to switch back and forth depending on whether you need lighting better for up close or long distance tasks. Here’s a another shot of the light outdoors with the light on it’s spotlight setting and its tough to see here but this light is throwing well over 150 meters which is really impressive for a light that’s as reasonably priced as this one. Here’s a shot comparing the wide flood with the spotlight adjustment on both the high and low settings. This is a shot comparing the output of the J5 on it’s highest setting with a 14500 battery on the left and a AA battery on the right. Overall this is an excellent light that’s really high quality and also reasonably priced. This is great for keeping in your glove box, a backpack or keeping at home in case the power goes down. One thing to keep in mind is that you will need to supply your own AA or 14500 battery.
