I spent my day walking around and exploring this beautiful sustainable eco-village of Khonoma. And can you believe that this same village used to be a Hunter’s village?! In earlier times, the main livelihood of the people here came from hunting and animal trade but the village collectively decided to change their ways to save the environment. All the Hunters are now forest rangers and their main livelihood now is organic farming! I visited the garlic fields, local houses and the Khonoma Fort; tried one of the SPICIEST chillies of the world which is grown here in Nagaland; ate some of the sweet dried apples too; explored a tiny waterfall in Dzuleke and visited the very FIRST self-payment shop I have ever seen! It amazes me that there is so much trust within the community to take care of their homeland and their neighbours. The part that I LOVED the most is that each house here uses fruits trees and flower plants to decorate their surroundings instead of artificial materials. This definitely was a beautiful day for me and I can’t wait to show you guys all the other MAGICAL experiences that Nagaland has to offer!!
