| Video Discription | (27 Jul 1968) STORY BIAFRA'S BATTLE FOR SURVIVAL Preliminary talks between Biafra and Nigeria - held under the auspices of the Organisation of African Unity in Niamey, Niger Republic - have raised hopes that a cease-fire might soon be arranged in the Nigerian civil war. Meanwhile, there's been little progress towards solving the dispute over bringing relief to Biafra's refugees, and thousands continue to die from starvation every day. Col. Ojukwu explained to our reporter, Richard Lindley, why he will not accept aid from the British Government. The starving Biafrans are still prepared to fight, however, and the army has to cope with up to 30,000 recruits a week who volunteer for service. When these raw recruits go into action, they show little appreciation of military strategy and often fire blindly at anything which moves. Richard Lindley's report covers both the military and refugee aspects of the war, and includes some of the most graphic film to come out of Nigeria since the war began.
