The BMC's substantial budget allows it to undertake various capital expenditure projects aimed at long-term benefits, such as infrastructure development. Some of the major allocations in the budget include funds for projects like the Coastal Road Phase 2, sewerage treatment plants, water supply connectivity improvements, desalination plants, road and traffic improvements, sewerage disposal, stormwater drain upgrades, and health and bridge department projects. The revenue for BMC primarily comes from multiple sources, including income tax, entertainment tax, custom duty collections, central excise tax, foreign trade, property taxes, grants from the central and state governments, development plans, interests and investments, and water and sewerage charges. Additionally, BMC supplements its revenue through loans and its substantial financial reserve, which amounts to around 84,000 crores. For the financial year 2024-25, BMC has allocated approximately 10,000 crores from its reserve for the budget.
