* All info is constantly changing and I have found many breeders, importers and several scientists, all with differing opinions, or multiple routes to each strain. So if you know of another route to reaching a strain, I would love to hear it. Thanks!

If you happen to know more about this confusing genetic history, please feel free to leave me a message and inform me on what information is missing. Thank you !
The video I made several months ago on shrimp genetics has been a popular one, however a lot of people were confused on how shrimp breeding works exactly. As well as if the different color variations of neocaridina Davidi and neo. palmata (the "pearl" family) can split off and evolve backwards (revert) to previous color stages. Which, they can and this is know as " throwing" or "reverting", and can only be reduced via culling or removing those individuals from the population.
Beyond this, I have also learned from breeders who have been in the hobby for many decades, that some of the information may have been mudded by incorrectly named shrimp such as Bloody Marys labeled as cherry shrimp or painted fire shrimp labeled as a bloody mary shrimp. Which then can end up throwing blue shrimp variants and confusing shrimp breeding hobbyists and myself alike, on what the true lineage is in this species.
I will be talking about neocaridina palmata & davidii specifically and within neocaridina davidii, I will discuss the 3 wild types. A rusty striped phenotype, a dark brown to black version and the golden or more light gold or brown wild type that our yellow shrimp variants seem to stem from.
This video includes discussing why decoding the genetics on these shrimp is so tricky and also will show the most likely pathways of selective breeding to produce each phenotype aka color variant.
Variants ill discuss include the following-
Neocaridina davidi
Red cherry shrimp, painted fire, red fire shrimp, Sakura red shrimp, blue rili shrimp, blue topaz, blue dream, blue velvet, blue jelly, red Rili, orange rili, pumpkin shrimp, sakura yellow, yellow, green, jade, schoko, bloody Mary's, black rose, carbon and carbon rili. 0A2ie09Q9RA |
