Sanskrit: Buddham sharanam gacchâmi. बुद्धं शरणं गच्छामि । Dharmam sharanam gacchâmi. धर्मं शरणं गच्छामि । Sangham sharanam gacchâmi. संघं शरणं गच्छामि ।। Translation: I go for refuge in knowledge, I go for refuge in teachings, I go for refuge in community. Notes: 1. Buddham refers to Buddha (Pali), to knowledge/enlightenment/ability to reason/mind's power to discriminate (Sanskrit). 2. Teachings refer to Buddhist teachings (Pali), and Dharmic teachings (Sanskrit). 3. Sangham means the same in Pali and Sanskrit: community of like-minded spiritual beings. 4. This invocation, or refuge prayer, is known as the “Three Jewels” or “Three Treasures” (tri-ratna) prayer in Buddhism. 5.
