| Video Discription | We're kicking off the new month with what I'm planting at our two locations here in San Diego County and what you can be starting in your own garden! 0:25 WHAT TO PLANT IN JUNE One thing you might notice right away: this is pretty much the same board as last month. I just changed the month, but I do want to focus on the cool season succession planting section. Can you plant these - or even other cool season crops - pretty much all year? Yes. Would I recommend it? No, not really. Instead, feel free to keep planting warm-season crops in June and for months to come. For example, we have several months that you can start tomatoes from seed or transplant, so I like to do at least a couple of rounds. You haven't missed the train yet! Because temps are slowly rising, it's easier to direct sow instead of starting off seeds in cells and then transplanting them out. Larger seeds, like squash and melons, are especially easy to direct sow! And don't forget about those pollinators! There are quite a few options for flowers that will thrive this time of year, so pick out some favorites and get them in the ground too. 5:18 FARM UPDATE Tomatoes are the most popular thing to grow, so let's check in on the plants here! These were started from seed about four months ago, but they're really starting to take off now that temps are warming up. In another plot, we do still have some cool season crops. We're letting them live out their final days, and we won't be planting any other rounds of these. Next to those, we're starting to work in warm-season plants. Cucumbers are also coming along really nicely. Even though I do note that you can direct sow cucumber seeds, these were started in trays because we have a lot of critters out here. This is a great reminder to know your gardening area and adjust my recommendations accordingly. The corn is only a few inches tall at this point, and we're excited to see it really take off in the coming months here!
