In the financial year 2068-2069, about 10,000 Nepali students used to go abroad, now, more than one lakh students go abroad every year. Approximately 3,000 education consultancies across the country are affiliated with the Nepal Educational Consultancy Association (NECAN). Besides those not affiliated with NECAN, it is estimated that there is an equal number of consultancies. According to the Educational Counseling Services and Language Teaching Guideline of 2073, the primary role of these institutions is to provide the necessary counseling to students who wish to study at home and abroad, assisting them in selecting subjects, levels, educational institutions, and enrollment. Additionally, they provide language training and other preparations, charging a fixed fee for these services.
