| Video Discription | Currency Swaps are a common feature of international trade - Understand currency swap with example by experts A currency swap is a foreign exchange transaction that involves trading principal and interest in one currency for the same in another currency. As countries trade with one another, the currency in which the payments happen is an open question. For example, suppose that India and Belgium sign a Defense Deal where Belgium is giving India 5 Air crafts. Belgium prefers to be paid not in the Indian rupee, but in the US Dollar since it’s the world’s reserve currency. Now India has to enter into a Currency swap with the US to pay Belgium in US dollars. India and US will swap their respective currencies. This exchange will have two parts: the initial principal, and the rolling interest payments. The principal and the interest will be exchanged at a rate that can be fixed or free-floating.
