Before getting a new one, you can get a bit more life out of it if you want, for free. First make sure to discharge it fully before opening up the laptop. Disconnect it from the logic board, go outside to avoid inhaling the gas. Puncture with a plastic object - metal could cause a spark and start a fire. Press on the cells to let all the gas out and then use some good tape to seal the holes. I have done this hundred of times and did not have any report of issues. The battery capacity will take a slight hit, but i have people running like this for a year and still holding some capacity. Purchasing a new battery for old mac is a very hard task as scams are easy to come by, refurbished and low quality items are everywhere and will never last like the original one, and swapping it is a very long procedure.
