The company was founded in London, England in 1981, and in 1987, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, the King of Brunei, purchased the Dorchester Hotel and the Beverly Hills Hotel, and in 1991 transferred ownership to the Brunei Investment Authority. In 1996, the Brunei Investment Authority established the Audley Group, which later became the Dorchester Group, to manage these hotels. Later, in November 2006, the name was changed to the current "Dorchester Collection" and rebranded. The Dorchester Collection currently owns nine luxury hotels, including The lana, which opened in Dubai in February 2024. The lana hotel in Dubai is located in the vibrant Business Bay area beside Dubai Creek, a 25-minute drive from Dubai International Airport. Downtown, including Burj Khalifa, is a 20-minute walk away. There are a total of eight restaurants and bars, four of which are supervised by three Michelin star chefs: modern Mediterranean cuisine "Riviera'', rooftop bar "High Society'', Basque cuisine "Jara'', and patisserie "BonBon Cafe''. Other facilities available include Txakolina, a cigar lounge, Veranda bar, The Gallery, which serves afternoon tea, and Bitter Honey, a casual bar located in the lobby. The UAE's first Dior Spa opened in April on the 29th floor. There are 5 treatment rooms and 1 couples suite available. The exterior design of The lana Hotel was done by the British architectural design organization Foster + Partners, while the interior design was done by the Parisian designer duo Gilles & Boissier.
