The Open Science Framework (OSF; osf.io) is an open source software project that facilitates open collaboration in science research. The framework provides many features that enable sharing of research, but an under-appreciated feature of the platform is the 'backend' it provides for research projects prior to sharing. The OSF can host lab notebooks, store documents and enable version control, provide a visual project structure to facilitate group work and provide a free website that is findable and shareable.
