Encino in one sentence:
Glamorous, huge estates define old-money living along Ventura Blvd.

Script:
Quiet affluence close to glittering nightlife, impressive architecture, and a seat in a "SpongeBob SquarePants" episode? In the episode, Atlantis SquarePantis, the character Patchy the Pirate returns to his house, which is in Encino, to watch an episode of "SpongeBob." But when he returns home he finds out that the whole city's gone.
Well, you know what also is gone is this oak tree right here which is 1,000 years old. It was torn down in 1998 by an El Nino storm. And hey, that's where the city gets it's name because Encino, in Spanish, means evergreen oak. Hey, at least the city's still here. Let's go check it out. Encino's on the north slope of the Santa Monica Mountains, so there are very sizable estates tucked away in the hills. Encino probably has the most massive estates out of all the cities along the Boulevard.
When people say, "Old money," Encino defines old money. Established neighborhoods like Rancho Estates, Amestoy Estates, and Royal Oaks have some of the most beautiful homes in the entire Valley. The starting price to get into this is in the millions, and they easily go above 10 million.
The list of celebrities who have lived here is long, Johnny Carson, Richard Pryor, Ron Howard, Chick Hearn, Samuel Jackson, The Jackson 5 and Sally Ride. Though small, it is a thriving area with approximately 3,800 businesses. Most jobs are in health care, including in one of the two Encino-Tarzana Regional Medical Center hospitals.
But there are accounting, financial, and social services as well. If you like to work out, Encino has many gyms and studio classes on or near Ventura Boulevard. The Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area with the Encino Golf Course and the Balboa Sports Complex are other options, as is the Encino Velodrome, which has an outdoor bicycle racing track.
Maybe you'd like to picnic at Los Encinos State Historic Park or grow vegetables at Sepulveda Garden Center, a community garden. For shopping, there's the Encino Town Center, which also houses the Laemmle Theater. It is near the Encino Commons arc. Encino Place and Encino Marketplace are other favorite areas. The weekly farmer's markets mean truly define the tight-knit feel you get after living here long enough.
Encino has a diverse selection of restaurants as well. The Versailles, Fat Sal's Deli, Davenport's, the Tel Aviv Grill where you can get thick, juicy burgers. Once a year, Ventura Boulevard is also blocked off for a street fair called A Taste of Encino. At night, Surly Goat or Vino Wine & Tapas Room are popular hangouts.
In the year 2000, the percentage of residents 50 and older were among the highest in the entire county, with the median age being 42, considered pretty old for the rest of the city and the county. 10% of it's residents are also veterans which is really high too. It is also an area in LA that is not considered especially diverse, with a high percentage of Caucasian residents.
The median yearly household income was considered high for the city, as was the percentage of divorcees and widowed men and women. Encino is a very educated community with almost half its residents having four year degrees. There are also many private and diverse schools here, Crespi Carmelite High School, Valley Beth Shalom Day School, to name a few. And for sure, everybody's trying to get into Hesby Oaks School.
Like the massive live Oak tree that Encino is named after, there's been a lot of stability here in terms of the housing, and the jobs, and the shopping that it provides.
