The State of Filipino Millennials with #DrJayeelCornelio

Eye opening talk on the true state of the Pinoy Millennial youth recorded Sept 10, 2021
It was an interesting, inspiring and insightful--nay--even disturbing night of the spoken word with Dr Jayeel.
Where is the redemption?, one asked after the talk. Another said, "the future of the youth in the Philippines looks bleak."
Sociologist Dr Jayeel doesn't mince words or sugarcoats or falls into the trap of romanticising the youth as the future or saviour of our country. He tells it like it is and challenges us writers to write to the right millennial audience that isn't defined by the popular media and advertisers.
Or else...
At the end, there is hope.

Product details of Rethinking Filipino Millennials: Alternative Perspectives on a Misunderstood Generation edited by Jayeel Cornelio
Much has been said about Filipino millennials. Born in the 1980s and 1990s, they are often described in passionate terms: they can seize the day, pursue their dreams, and travel the world. And yet they can also be self-entitled and narcissistic. How true are these characteristics? Drawing from the empirical work of 17 scholars from around the country, this collection presents an alternative view. Millennials belong to a fragmented generation whose dreams, abilities, and dispositions need to be understood in context. An agenda-setting collection, this will be useful for researchers and practitioners who wish to understand the state of the youth and the emergence of new generations.
The volume shatters the stereotype of Filipino millennials as gadget-wielding, selfie-taking, and apathetic hedonists. It assembles a diverse range of research by Filipino scholars on young people today: their politics, religious practices, and identities that intersect with questions of sexuality, consumption, and leisure. It further unpacks their aspirations for the future, advocacies for the environment, and struggles against economic precarity and ethnic marginalization. This excellent book is for anyone interested in having a grasp of the complexities of this generation.
