| Video Discription | Description of the common firewood units of sale and their measurements are discussed. What is face cord or a bush cord? Often you will hear people mention a "cord" of wood, but sometimes people confuse the two terms. Firewood can't be measured by weight because there are a few variables that make weight distribution uneven. Those factors are moisture content, species and the density of each log, which will be typically heavier if the log is knotty or has grown thick in a crease in the form of the tree. Because of this, firewood is measured in volume, cubic feet to be exact. Standard length of a firewood log is 16 inches, this is what will be used to describe both face cord and a full cord/ bush cord measurements. A full cord or a bush cord is a tightly cropped stack of firewood measuring 4 feet wide, 4 feet high and 8 feet long, with a calculated volume of 128 cubic feet. A face cord is one-third of a bush cord: there are 3 rows of 16 inch logs in a bush cord, therefore there are three face cords in a bush cord. A face cord measures in volume to 42.66 cubic feet.
