A first day at doing something new, is something we all experience, Whether it's first day nerves for a new school, college, university, or a new job, this is something we have all experienced at one time or another. But for many it can be a daunting prospective and can create first day nerves, first day jitters and first day anxiety.
Firstly, this is quite normal, when you do something new, you are entering the unknown and your mind doesn’t know what to expect and because the mind primary function is to protect us, it's simply preparing you for the unknown.
Sometime people get excited, other's get nervous, there isn't actually much difference between the feelings, it’s how we perceive and process the feelings, that determines how we respond and approach it that makes the difference.
So, ask yourself, am I excited or nervous?
And even if it feels like nerves, don't despair you can help yourself and be calm.
Nerves are the bodies way to prepare you for the experience. if he feelings are negative, it’s probably because you are processing the experience in a negative way.
So, put it in perspective, it maybe a new experience, but it isn't a life or death situation.
As you feel the feelings, just remember that is you exploring and stretching your comfort zone, and as you experience new things you are expanding and stretching it. And once you stretch it, it can’t go back to how it used to be.
Get yourself prepared for the first day, do everything you can to get ready and then, put it in perspective. You can help prepare yourself in advance, do what you can to relax, this will help prepare you to be in the best headspace ready for your first day.
Do the obvious things to help, get prepared, get everything ready, sleep well, fuel your body, get yourself plenty of time to get there without rushing. Prepare yourself in advance by imaging the day going well, imagine ypurelf being as calm and comfortable as you can.
Be open and embrace everything, new experiences, new friendships, new learning and growing and evolving as a person. Help yourself and other's in the same situation by smiling as embrace the new experiences, this will help put yourself and other at ease.
Put it in perspective, it's just one day of many in your life and this one day will be just one very small part of your overall life and before you know it this new situation will feel so comfortable and familiar to you.
Just know that soon this will be your normal and be very comfortable to you and remember that whatever happens tomorrow is a new day to enjoy.
