After just two years in the business a small fish farmer, investing huge sums of monies in his ornamental fish farm have decide to call it quits. Ornamental fish trade rakes in billions of dollars each year world wide. To get a share of that market however requires monies, connections with the right person and the knowledge of the bureaucracy which exist both in government and business laws. This is why i chose not to invest heavily in this side of fish keeping and fish trade. For me personally its my hobby. However , in reality it is costly, water changes, electricity for pumps, restocking, maintenance of system, acquiring of new equipment. All the above listed requires funding. For me I have decided just to trade to my local pet stores. I might decide to import exotic fish next year, but this is just a thought. The thought of me going internatonal is far from my mind. I have seen what my friend ( co worker) went through and opted not to go that route. Choices of expansion does not rely solely on funding , it requires desirability. Every business person should fore see a futuristic bottom line which puts him or her in a better position financial in the near future.Investment without sensible returns is regarded as foolish. My Mini fish farm is simple and workable for me. I am allowed to change fish stocking any time I wish, using the pattern of sales at my local pet shops. Research is key, knowing your market is priority if you do plant to stay a float. The idea of changing the mindset of the consumer should never be yours as a smallsmart business individual. The aim is to take advantage of an emerging market. As you grow, and become well established ( which will take sometime) you can shift focus and become both marketer and sales philanthropist.
