| Video Discription | Fort Adams in Newport, Rhode Island, is a National Historic Landmark. As described in the brochure by the Fort Adams Trust, it is the “largest coastal fortification in the United States built between 1824-1957, active through WWII and designed to mount 468 cannons and house 2400 troops and commands the entrance to Newport Harbor and the Narraganset Bay. Our guide gives us the history of the fort and we will enter the fort and be on the “parade”, the inner area that is “800 ft. across and covers 6-1/2 acres. This was the Fort’s center of activity and used for inspection, ceremony, encampments, and recreation. We then head toward the officer’s quarters “located within the casemates of the East Front”.
