In ancient times of the Mediterranean area, the predominant players were women. They were priestesses responsible for the religious functions of the community. It was used to create sacred space, communal bonding, rituals, rites of passage and to celebrate the cycles and seasons of life. It was used to invoke, induce trance and alter consciousness.
