No does not mean the grocery store..The Question is how fruit is formed in plants? Fruit that we eat, cannot be formed without pollination and fertilization. When pollen grains mature they are transferred to stigma of flower by pollination…. what will be next step after pollination? After pollination, pollen tubes grows and enters in to the ovary and then ovule and finally enters in the embryo sac. Embryo sac contain a total of 8 nuclei, out of which two nuclei present in the centre are called polar nuclei. three nuclei form egg apparatus towards the micropylar end and the remaining three nuclei form antipodal cells. Fertilization is the process of fusion of male gamete with female gamete. But in Angiosperm or Flowering Plants undergo a unique process called as Double fertilization. Now you might be thinking.. What is Double Fertilization ? In Flowering plants pollen tube discharges the male cells in the embryo sac. And after that one of the male gamete fuses with egg to form a diploid zygote and this is called syngamy. And the second male gamete fuses with diploid secondary nucleus or polar nuclei to form the endosperm nucleus.Since this process include two fusion, this is called as Double Fertilization. Endosperm nucleus is formed by fusion of three nuclei, since it involve three nuclei it is called as triple fusion.
