Using a Go gameboard and stones, players alternate taking turns placing the stones on any empty intersection. Black goes first then the players alternate. Stones may not be removed from the board once placed. A common variation to play with is the Swap 2 rule. With Swap2, at the beginning of the game, the first player starts by placing three stones: 2 black and 1 white on the board. The second player then selects to either: play black, play white and place one more stone, or place two more stones of any color and let the first player choose the color they want to be.
