Wondering how to get free home repair? Owning a home is a wonderful but expensive experience. As many of our readers have discovered, rising rents can make mortgages look downright cheap! Unfortunately, the lower monthly costs come with the dreaded responsibility for home repairs which can be costly and unexpected. Fortunately, we’ve found help.
I’m Nicole from LowIncomeRelief.com, where we help millions of people save money
and get free stuff.
If you’re wondering how to get free home repair, you’ll be relieved to know that many local governments and other agencies can help you bear the financial burden of home repairs. These grants are usually handled on a local level by governments and agencies.
In the course of our research on this piece, we’ve discovered some interesting things. For example, there are nationwide programs like the low income Weatherization program. There are also many local agencies and organizations that can help. That’s why we’ve put together a detailed state-by-state guide at LowIncomeRelief.com/free-home-repair-grants.
This is one of the few programs we report on that I’ve actually tried myself. Remember when I told you about that insane $3,364 power bill we received a few years ago? Shortly after that, we were invited to participate in the Weatherization program in our area.
This program sent technicians to our home that provided over $18,000 in free home repair to our older home! Among other things, they installed a heat pump, new insulation, new windows, new bathroom fans and so much more. It was incredible!
As a result of these improvements, our power bill dropped from over $600 per month to just $150 - and we didn’t have to pay anything for the improvements that we received. It was amazing.
It’s not just weatherization services, though. There are countless programs that can help you by providing free home repair or even free disability modifications like ramps!
Sometimes, additional assistance is available through low-cost loan programs as well. These loans are often deferred until the sale of the home or completely forgiven after a few years.
For example, when we wrote our article, we discovered that Mohave County, arizona, has a $50,000 assistance loan that can be used to help repair heating, cooling, roofing, plumbing, electrical, energy efficiency, weatherization and more. It can even be used for disability modifications! The assistance is initially provided as a deferred forgivable loan with 0% interest. If you live in your home long enough, the entire loan can be forgiven!
Of course, these programs vary by area and each program sets their own criteria. It would be impossible to go through all of them in a video like this, especially because we’re constantly updating the articles with new information.
That’s why you’ll need to visit us on our website for more information. You will need to go to LowIncomeRelief.com/free-home-repair-grants and click on your state. We have an alphabetical state list in big blue links near the end of our article.
I hope this has been helpful! Please like and subscribe to this video. We’ll be back soon with more ways that you can save money and get free stuff!
While you’re here, I wanted to let you know that our list also includes foreclosure prevention resources and other programs that can help homeowners. You can always find help at LowIncomeRelief.com!
