At some point of time in the distant past, in the ancient world, there was this incredible period of awakening. The thoughts propounded by this awakening, underlay many early faiths most of which have been persecuted to extinction One of Plato's most important dialogues is Phaedo. In the dialogue, Socrates expounds his philosophy to his students, hours before his execution. Central to this philosophy (or should I say faith) was the concept that the soul is immortal. He talks about the transmigration of the soul which is due to the state of forgetfulness (I would say ignorance), and recollection of the true nature of the soul as the path to salvation.
