| Video Discription | Blood pressure is the pressure inside the blood vessels. It is the force with which the blood is flowing inside the blood vessels. So there is a normal range for blood pressure. When the blood pressure is more, we call it as hypertension. Hypertension in pregnancy is common and there is a deadly triad along with hemorrhage and infection. There are various terms being used to describe this hypertension in pregnancy. They convey the cause and effect relation between pregnancy and hypertension. Any hypertension recorded during pregnancy can be dangerous to the mother and the baby. The various term used are gestational hypertension, preeclampsia or toxemia of pregnancy or there is eclampsia where there is convulsions along with high BP reading or chronic hypertension. Among these chronic hypertension is what is present before pregnancy, and continues during pregnancy and continues after that. Either the woman is aware of that or she has never come before and she has not had a prenatal checkup or her BP has not been checked before. So we find that she is chronic hypertensive either in the 5th month or in the later part of the pregnancy and we have to monitor this and it also continues 3 months after delivery.
