| Video Discription | If you are traveling through the Black Hills region of South Dakota, you need to include a stop at this iconic memorial. The sculpture that is Mount Rushmore National Memorial consists of four American Presidential figures carved into a granite mountain. We found the story behind the memorial's creation to be one of inspiration and national pride. The four Presidents (Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln) are meant to represent America's birth, growth, development and preservation, respectively. It doesn't take a lot of time to walk down the Avenue of Flags and stand on the Grand View Terrace and admire the colossal sculpture. If time allows, you can extend your visit to include a walk through the Sculptor's Studio and/or the Lincoln Borglum Visitor Center. Both are very interesting. We would also highly recommend a walk along the Presidential Trail. Total length of the trail is 0.6 miles. Collectively there are 422 stairs on the trail. However, we did not find this walk difficult at all. It affords some closer views of the memorial sculpture and is a nice walk through some interesting rock formations and Ponderosa pines.
