| Video Discription | Bala Hissar Fort The Bala Hissar, or "High Fort," in Peshawar, the capital city of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan, stands as an ancient fortress that has commanded its position for nearly 2000 years. This majestic quadrilateral structure boasts dual fortifications, an architectural wonder that has stood the test of time. Following the overthrow of Indian Emperor Humayun by Afghan King Sher Shah Suri, the fort suffered destruction at the hands of the Afghans. The moniker 'Bala Hissar' was bestowed by the Afghan Pashtun King Timur Shah Durrani (1773–1793), who designated the fort as the winter capital of the Durrani Empire. In 1902, after the annexation of Sikh Shahi areas in 1849, the British undertook the reconstruction of Bala Hissar. The original mud walls were replaced with sturdy red bricks, redefining the structure into the iconic monument it is today. The historical significance of Bala Hissar endured through various periods, even serving as the headquarters for the FC (Frontier Corps) under Viceroy Lord Curzon in 1948, a role it has maintained since then.
