Hope Gardens is the largest temporary accommodation of its kind in the UK. This project is an innovative housing scheme that makes use of repurposed shipping containers to offer a sustainable, cost-effective and flexible temporary accommodation for vulnerable communities. Hope Gardens sits on a former brownfield site earmarked for long-term development. Hope Gardens was granted a temporary building permit of seven years after which the modular housing units will be relocated to a new site. The development in Hope Gardens, Acton, consists of 60 self-contained units that provide temporary housing for people and families in need of emergency accommodation. The 60 homes include 32 two bedroom units, 20 one bedroom units and 8 studio homes which range from 12 to 36 square meters in size. 8 studio units ideal for 1-2 people, 20 one bedroom units ideal for 2-4 people; 32 two bedroom units for 3-6 people with a Maximum occupancy of 288 people. A studio unit comprises of a single container module, 2 modules for a one bedroom unit and a three bedroom unit is comprised of 3 container modules.
