| Video Discription | (16 Nov 2015) LEAD IN: The head of operarions at the UN's humanitarian affairs office met Houthi leaders in the Yemeni capital Sanaa today (Monday). They held talks in an attempt to pave the way for the delivery of aid to the beleaguered country. STORY-LINE: UN operations director John Ging arrives for meetings with leaders of the Houthi rebel movement in Sanaa. He's taking part in talks to arrange for aid to be brought to those in need. The ongoing conflict gained international attention when the Houthis took over the capital in September last year, and escalated in March as a Saudi-led coalition started launching airstrikes against Houthi positions. A series of talks have attempted to bring a stop to the fighting but are so far unsuccessful. Ging outlines his hopes for Yemen. "To end the conflict, and take the issues into a political process, so that people can get back to rebuilding their lives, and living their lives in peace. Of course, in the meantime, we will focus on what we can do to help, " he says. Houthi leader Mohammed Ali al-Houthi greets the UN director of operations at the presidential palace which the Houthis have been using as their headquarters since January. The rebel leader is likely to be a key figure in negotiations. Fighting in Yemen has killed more than 4,500 people, according to the UN. The violence has left the Arab world's poorest country in the grip of a humanitarian crisis and on the brink of famine. The UN says over 21 million people - 80 percent of the population - need humanitarian assistance. The conflict pits Yemen's President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi against the Iranian-backed Houthis who are allied to military units loyal to ex-president Ali Abdullah Saleh.
