| Video Discription | This Toshiba laptop hard drive had a crushed/dented top case that had affected it's performance. The drive would not spin when power was applied to it. The only possible solution in this case was to take the platter and head stack assembly out and transplant it into another hard drive’s case. The drive had to be completely rebuilt from scratch. Platter swaps are the most difficult repair and procedure performed on a hard drive. Simply having the wrong torque on the spindle screws can cause the drive to be unreadable by the heads. In most cases inexperienced engineers require many failed attempts before they achieve their first successful one. Very few data recovery cases actually require this procedure.
