SOUNDBITE: (English) Kurt Ray, Sergeant, 7th Armoured Brigade: "It's quite hot; we've been in it now for about an hour but basically you've got to take on water as much as you can whenever you get a spare five minutes - that basically rehydrates from what you're losing from wearing the suit from the start. Line of tanks in sand STORYLINE: British troops from the 7th Armoured Brigade, otherwise known as "the Desert Rats", were in Kuwait preparing for possible chemical weapons attacks on Wednesday. The soldiers carried out medical emergency drills in nuclear chemical and biological warfare suits. Despite the searing heat of the desert, with temperatures already reaching 30C, the troops are expecting to wear these suits during the conflict. The soldiers have orders to stop every ten minutes - if they are able to - for special drinking stops in an attempt to minimise the number of dehydration casualties. The Desert Rats, are expected to make a major contribution to any ground war and have been tipped to hold Basra, Iraq's second city in the south whilst US soldiers tackle Baghdad. The heavyweight forces run in a "battle group" - a combination of artillery, armoured and infantry battalions.
