Hyundai i30N Review I New 2018 I Interior & Exterior
The i30 N is Hyundai Motor’s first high-performance car under the N line up.
Built on the Reinvented i30, the i30 N has been developed from the ground up to deliver maximum driving pleasure in everyday life on the road, as well as on the track.
Born in Namyang, honed at the Nurburgring.
The ‘N’ stands for Namyang, Hyundai Motor’s global R&D Centre in Korea, where the idea was born, and for the Nürburgring, home to Hyundai Motor’s European Test Centre, where the N line up was further developed and tested.
The N logo symbolises a chicane, the ultimate corner where the i30 N has been tested thoroughly, representing the ultimate driving experience on winding roads.
Powerful 2.0 litre Turbo-GDi engine delivers up to 202kW and 353 Nm torque.
The i30 N’s 2.0-litre turbocharged direct injection engine offers two states of tune – a standard tune with 184 kW, as well as a Performance Package with maximum power of 202 kW. Both versions deliver a maximum torque of 353 Nm, with the Performance Package vehicle completing the 0-100km/h sprint in 6.2 seconds.
High-performance.
State-of-the-art high-performance technologies provide an dynamic and engaging driving experience. With four drive modes – Normal, Sport, Eco, and N-mode, plus a driver-selectable Custom mode, the driver can tailor the driving experience to their tastes and the specific driving scenario.
Electronic limited slip differential (Performance Package):
The electronically-controlled mechanical limited slip differential (E-LSD) distributes torque intelligently between the two front wheels depending on driver inputs, as well as the 2 selectable E-LSD modes (Normal and Sport). The E-LSD allows drivers to be more engaged with the vehicle, reducing wheel spin and understeer, increasing cornering speed, allowing the vehicle to be driven out of corners on the throttle with confidence.
Electronically controlled suspension:
The i30 N’s Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS) features 3 selectable suspension modes (Normal, Sport, and Sport+), allowing drivers to control the stiffness of the suspension and the dynamic response of the vehicle. The system also continually adjusts the damping force depending on road conditions, combining ride comfort with driver engagement. Standard on the i30 N, ECS ensures the vehicle feels right at home, whether you’re on your daily drive, or at the circuit.
Rev Matching:
The rev matching function automatically blips the throttle on downshifts, resulting in smoother and sportier driving experience. This system can be turned off completely for drivers who demand the ultimate control in their driving experience.
Variable Exhaust Valve System (Performance Package):
An electronically actuated valve in the exhaust system allows drivers to select their desired exhaust note with 4 selectable exhaust modes (Eco, Normal, Sport, and Sport+). The less aggressive modes provide the i30 N with a sweet, subtle burble, whilst the more aggressive modes excite the senses with a deep, powerful exhaust tone, complete with pops and crackles.
Exclusive "N" interior.
The exclusive N sports interior includes heavily bolstered N sports seats, bespoke N steering wheel with dedicated N-mode button, as well as an N specific race computer which features a lap timer, G-force meter, boost gauge, and programmable custom drive-mode control.
19-inch alloy wheels Pirelli P-Zero tyres.
The i30 N with Performance Package comes with 19-inch Hyundai N specific Pirelli P-Zero high-performance tyres, distinctive red N brake calipers, as well as 345mm front brake discs.
The i30 N has been developed on the basis of three corner stones under the theme ‘Fun to Drive’: Corner Rascal, Everyday Sports Car and Race Track Capability.
The i30 N has been developed to make the driver’s heart beat faster when he or she gets behind the wheel. Instead of focusing on pure numbers, Hyundai Motor has chosen to emphasise driving pleasure and the emotional impact on the driver’s heartbeats per minute (BPM), rather than simply measuring revs per minute (RPM). When the driver hits the throttle and shifts through the gears, the Rev matching function supports smooth gear shifting, while the overboost function increases torque (+8%) and acceleration (+6-7%). The feeling is enhanced by the car’s emotional sound from the dual muffler exhaust featuring the variable exhaust valve system. The cockpit of the i30 N shows key performance parameters through the new instrument cluster and the 8-inch free-floating screen’s modes such as the G-Force meter for live tracking of the performance.
