Many of us have goals and dreams that we’d like to accomplish, but haven’t gotten close to yet. Everywhere we look, we’re bombarded with messages that something is “wrong” with us and that we’re somehow falling behind. All of these messages can negatively impact our Self-Concept, our Self-Image, and Self-Esteem. In this video, I explain some practical ways to maintain a positive self-perception during the quarter-life crisis. In a world that inspires us all to confirm, Gem Class is about being authentic. My name is Imani Reynolds and I'm a recovering self-critic, social comparer, and "comfort-zoner". I raced to live up to other people's standards-- from my appearance, to my career, to "life milestones", to everything else in between. I constantly worried that I couldn't keep up with my peers, that I wasn't doing enough, and that I would somehow get "left behind". Eventually, I got tired of racing, and I began to question the finish line altogether. Going after what I'd thought I wanted wasn't making me any happier, so I changed my destination.
