| Video Discription | For more information, visit: https://www.hatch.us/ If you're thinking about becoming a surrogate, you might be wondering what are some of the reasons that an intended parent needs to help with a surrogate to have their family. And there are a number of reasons why parents may choose this path for their family building. One may be female infertility. Some of those factors could be congenital defects. So being born, perhaps without a womb or with a womb with congenital defects that won't allow pregnancy to continue normally. Having had a hysterectomy, having had previous cancer or what we call unexplained infertility, where somebody has tried time and time again to get pregnant through every method and has not had success keeping a pregnancy state. There could be other health risks that bring them to surrogacy such as serious medical conditions or medical conditions that require medications that are not safe for pregnancy. And really can't be stopped for the benefit of the parents' health. They could have a history, unfortunately, a recurrent miscarriage or previous stillbirth. So they may be able to get pregnant, but not unfortunately carry to term. They could have a prior high risk pregnancy or high risk, complicated delivery where their doctor has advised that it's not ideal for their health to get pregnant again. And they still of course, want to have a child. They could have advanced maternal age. We do see single fathers as well as gay couples, of course need the help of a surrogate when you're talking about a one man or two men, because there isn't a womb between them. So they're counting on the generosity of an incredible woman to help them. And then there's social surrogacy. And this is not something that we do commonly at Hatch, but with social surrogacy, there is somebody who is essentially having to choose between their career path and pregnancy. There are some careers that are so demanding that a person can't stop for pregnancy without forfeiting quite a lot in their position. Unfortunately, a lot of women are up against this. And so when those cases arise, things like actresses, professional athletes, for people in just very high demand positions, they have to make that choice between their timeline for having their family and pursuing their career.
