| Video Discription | Nearly 2-thousand people have been killed in violent crime on the Cape Flats over the past six months. A large number of these as a result of gang shootings. The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) was sent into the Cape Flats on the 18th of July to support police efforts to curb rampant crime. While killings halved over the first weekend of the soldiers' deployment, by the last weekend of July the number spiked again, reaching over 40 murders. Ten of these cases are gang-related. Many of the slain were innocent bystanders, caught in the crossfire. Nearly every weekend a mother on the Cape Flats has to bury a child in the seemingly never-ending violence.
