The Dharmapuram Aadheenam was founded during the 16th century, along with the Thiruvaduthurai Adheenam and the Thiruppanandal Adheenam, to spread the ideology of Saiva Sidhantam. The Aadheenam is involved in publishing Saivite literature, specifically the Thevaram and Tiruvasakam and their translations.
