In this Japan guide, we follow Naoto, a Japanese Man, behind the scenes at this Japanese mikoshi festival called Kitazawa Hachiman Aki Matsuri. We’ll also be joining his Mikoshi team “Shin-no-Mutsumi” in Shimokitazawa Tokyo Japan. This is a Japan Guide as well as Tokyo Guide to how Japanese men participate in Japanese Festivals like Mikoshi and what a Japanese Man would wear like the Japanese Happi, Japanese Obi and Tabi shoes. Mikoshi, is a traditional ritual held during that happens at some Japanese festivals. Mikoshi is the name of the portable Shinto Shrine that people carry around. Followers believe it serves as a vehicle to transport the God while moving between its main shrine and around throughout the neighborhood and spread its power among the people. Japanese Men and Woment who carry the Mikoshi, wildly bounce the portable shrine up and down with crazy high energy because it’s believed to Amuse the God inside.
