Nazrul Sangeet legend and the wife of the great composer, Feroza Begum, had performed at the program. Eminent musician, lyricist and singer Mohammad Asafuddowlah, the younger brother of Feroza Begum, had reminisced about Kamal Dasgupta. He had also presented Kamal Dasgupta’s songs at the program. Shafin Ahmed, the youngest son of Feroza Begum and Kamal Dasgupta, had also rendered songs from his father’s music compositions. Eminent singers Sabina Yasmin, Syed Abdul Hadi, Subir Nandi and Shakila Zafar were also among the performers. Nazrul singers Fatema Tuj Zohra and Ferdous Ara had also performed at the program. Kamal Dasgupta was born on 28 July 1912 in Narail, Jessore of the then British India. He earned his doctorate degree in music from Banaras Hindu University in 1943 for his work on Meerabai, the legendary composer and singer of Bhajans. Kamal Dasgupta sang modern songs in Bengali, Urdu, Hindi, and Tamil. He was also a composer, composing the music for about eight thousand songs. His work was based on classical music and tended towards the Thungri style, though he also drew inspiration from other sources. He developed a close association with the National Poet of Bangladesh, Kazi Nazrul Islam, and composed the music for almost four hundred of his songs.
