| Video Discription | Inspired by Sir Ken Robinson's TedTalk on 'Do Schools kill creativity?' and following many elements of ‘The Reggio Emilia Approach’ to early years education, which promotes children as “...active participators in their own learning in a unique reciprocal relationship with their teacher.” I run creative workshops for children that uphold the message of valuing a child's creative instinct. Here I, Sophie Johnson-Hill, share my thoughts. In a culture that inhibits a child’s natural spontaneous curiosity and teaches that making mis- takes is to be frowned upon, our children are encouraged to fit a system, regardless of what excites their spirit and energy. It is no wonder that so many adults grow out of creativity. I see my work as a little stepping-stone towards a greater mission of cultural change. My work follows many elements of ‘The Reggio Emilia Approach’ to early years education, which promotes children as: “...active participators in their own learning in a unique reciprocal relationship with their teacher.” So... here it is... My Proposal: An uplifting, immersive film that upholds a message of ‘the importance of trusting and valu- ing a child’s creative impulse.’ Every child deserves to be heard and every child deserves to feel important and every child deserves to feel happy. This 3 to 5 minute film (depending on which suits you best) will integrate footage, audio and animation created using the artwork and thoughts of young Nottingham based BME children mixed with filmed play sessions and interviews with parents. The film should not only be emotive but also empower the viewer to understand his own potential in creating a positive impact on our next generation. iaeiAOgQBjk |
